Hailing from Wanaka New Zealand, Olly Manson is a long-time single speeder, bikepacker, and Kona fanboy and he recently put together this very sweet Unit. He built this with durability and comfort in mind. The graphics pay homage to 90’s and early 2000’s Kona’s. As does the silver and anodized purple components. Olly always wanted a Stinky Dee-Lux growing up, so why not have a Unit Dee-Lux. Let’s take a look at this Unit…

This bike is rolling on RaceFace Arc rims with a Son 28 Dynamo up front. This powers a K-Lite light and the option to connect a Sinewave Revolution to charge USB devices. Rear is running a single speed specific Industry 9 Hydra. Looks good and sounds even better. High engagement always a plus for single speeding. Paired with some Vittoria 2.6 Mezcals for fast rolling with some semi-fat plushness.

For the drivetrain Olly is running an Absolute Black oval 34t chain ring with an Absolute Black 16t sprocket. Oval is great for single speeding as removes the dead spot in your crank rotation. Cranks are some Sram NX he found at a recycling centre. These have been stripped, sanded and hand polished to a mirror finish. Hope bottom bracket keeps everything turning.

Up front is that Son 28 Dynamo. This powers a K-Lite light and the option to connect a Sinewave Revolution to charge USB devices.

Olly has a Thomson seatpost and the reliable, comfy and durable Brooks C17.

Olly always wanted a Stinky Dee-Lux growing up, so why not have a Unit with Dee-Lux graphics.

Up in the cockpit you’ll find a Chromag Ranger 70mm stem with 800mm Chromag OSX bars, ESI foam grips and a splashing of purple anodised parts including a purple Hope headset. Usually he’s a 760mm bar width person, but the extra leverage is great for grinding up hills.

On the steerer is a switch allowing Olly to switch between USB and light from the dynamo hub. The ever reliable Shimano XT 2 pot brakes with 180mm ice techs and XT levers finish off the build.
